So there are two Cabot Redux blogs? What is the point of having two?

They serve different purposes. Cabotredux.com is ultimately the parent blog. It contains only original content. Its posts have, in many cases, more detail and explanation.

The Tumblr version has other advantages.  With that site I am hoping to become a part of a community, to reblog posts and have others reblog mine. While the Tumblr version may have less detail and cohesiveness, there will probably be greater variety among the posts.
